What is underpinning?

Underpinning is a process used to support the foundation of a house or building. It is usually done when the existing foundation has poor soil conditions or is not strong enough to support the weight of the house or building. Underpinning can also be used to level a sloping foundation or to raise a sunken foundation.

Underpinning is usually done by excavating around the perimeter of the house or building and installing support beams. The beams are then connected to the foundation with concrete or steel brackets. Once the beams are in place, concrete is poured around them to create a new foundation.

The Underpinning Process at Restumping Sydney

Assessment of the problem

The first step is to assess the problem and determine the best course of action. We will inspect your home or building and the surrounding area to determine the cause of the problem and the best way to fix it.

Designing the solution

Once we have assessed the problem, we will design a solution that will permanently fix the issue. We will take into account the weight of your home or building, the soil conditions, and the slope of the land.

Obtaining permits

After we have designed the solution, we will apply for all the necessary permits. This includes a building permit, a demolition permit, and an excavation permit.

Excavation

The next step is to excavate around the perimeter of your home or building. We will dig down to the depth that is required for the support beams.

Installing support beams

Once we have excavated the area, we will install the support beams. The beams are connected to the foundation with concrete or steel brackets.

Pouring concrete

Once the support beams are in place, we will pour concrete around them to create a new foundation. The concrete will need to cure for several days before you can move back into your home or building.
